These days it’s not uncommon to hear people who have worked in cooperate field for a number of years walking out on their jobs to pursue something different. What if you spent all those years in campus studying for something that was not your passion or simply lacked interest? What next?
“The two greatest days of your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out what your purpose is”. -Mark Twain
What is purpose? When people talk about purpose I relate it to something your passionate about , it can get you up in the morning and you would never feel it is tying you down. How do you find your purpose? I certainly do not have an answer to that but I read an article on 3 Unexpected Ways to Find Your Life Purpose By Shannon Kaisser .As the title suggest she describes three ways to find your passion and purpose which include : You can’t think your way into finding your life purpose; you have to do your way into it. Start taking steps to do what you love.Let go of thinking there is only one purpose for you and embrace the idea that our purpose in life is to love life fully by putting ourselves into our life! The latter is what I think we all have in our mind ; that we have only one purpose which limits us. What if I love doing a list of things which I could incorporate to have a fulfilling life. Honestly I have always looked for one thing I love which is something I am reconsidering right now.
Did you know that you spend a third of your waking life at your job ? Imagine if you don’t even like that job it’s just an 8-5 cycle that allows you to stay afloat. People have spent 15 years in careers they do not even like ;some realize it and take the leap of faith to find something new for others it’s too much of a risk especially if you have people depending on you. As a young person you have time to figure out what you want but it is not uncommon to find people who are only doing a course because their parents would not accept anything less .What does that mean for you as a person and your purpose in life? Should you pursue what you want despite their opinion? As an adult who has a career that you might not find fulfilling what advice would you give your children or if you have a platform to encourage others, what would you advice them to do differently ?
Not every job you will do will fulfill you 100% but you can find a way to build a career aligned to your purpose. Some people are good artists and might find architecture to be a good field to explore , others are bakers and start businesses from that. However you can only align a purpose to your career if you know what it is. Have you noticed that people who have side businesses most of them are inclined to their passion?
In an article What Finding Purpose in Your Career Really Means, according to Mark Zuckerberg he described purpose as “Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that we are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for. Purpose is what creates true happiness…But it’s not enough to have purpose yourself. You have to create a sense of purpose for others.”
Have you found your purpose ? If the answer is no, start trying new things you are bound to discover a few.If the answer is yes , are you working towards it? If yes ,good luck in your endeavors. If no, do not over think it just do it.
