I thought it was a good idea to do stretches for one week ( I have been in denial) before I start my workout tomorrow but it seems Monday has reached and I will have to do cardio. Stretches are not that easy BTW my body has been aching every single day.
I am not one to write-up resolutions when the year begins but have what I can call targets either daily, weekly or monthly because I like seeing the results quickly. The school calendar is starting tomorrow and just as I was printing out my schedules I thought what have I gotten myself into? Let me explain, I don’t like going back on my word and the goals I have written down have to be completed. One of them is working out which I started with as the introduction but here are some other targets I want to achieve.
Relationship with God. I am not a perfect christian but at some point in my life I saw God’s mercy in my life. Today’s sermon was about our intentions. Sometimes it is so easy to focus on what you want from God and forget his plans for our lives. We should not get caught up in our desires and forget to see what God has put in front of us.I also learnt that with God you have to be specific about what you want . My goal is to strengthen my relationship with God and nurture it. I have dreams ,goals and ambitions but have to intentionally choose his plan for my life.
“Forget the former things;do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
Studies. The effects of the strike are definitely going to take a toll on me. Lecturers harassing us left , right and centre ; my studies will be a priority as I try to get ahead of things . I am ready for the early mornings , the long days and tons of material to read. I will have to put in a lot of time and effort to maintain my grades and have been mentally preparing myself for the work. I have never reached breaking point but will try take breaks in between to keep me sane.
Working out. When some people hear that I work out they always ask why because I have a small body. I don’t do it for weight loss but for fitness and discipline. When I first started working out two years ago I would miss a day and my body would ache it was better not to skip the workout. As I continued I noticed I started becoming disciplined in different aspects of my life that is why I still want to incorporate it in my routine. So tomorrow is cardio I might feel like giving up but will have to do my best until I finish even if it will be an hour later.
Finances. It’s Njaanuary people and when I looked at my calendar I just realized that only a week has gone and I have to budget for so many things. Luxuries are definitely going to take a back seat this time. I always prioritize my needs and the rest will be handled later. Currently at the top of the list is rent, food and electricity once that is sorted I can rest easy knowing the basics are taken care of .
Health. I hate to admit this but my health always suffers every time I am in school. I don’t take my meals regularly and even neglect things like fruits but all that is going to change. I thought of writing up a menu but I doubt I would follow it because sometimes I will pass by Mama Achieng’s and decide to buy fish among other things that can affect what meal you will have. I will start with basics like a fruit everyday and two liters of water( as I write this I am trying to finish the last 500 ml bottle).
Being more productive. I want to learn a lot because knowledge is power. So as I was looking at my routine there were some parts where I can incorporate new things. I take an hour to get ready in the morning ; that includes a shower, getting dressed and breakfast during which I listen to music but I have decided to listen to TED talks and I started this morning . Did you know boredom triggers your creative side? ( I guess you have also learnt something today)
Guys, those are the current targets that I have for the month ,some will overflow, others will stick and others will be thrown out. Do you write resolutions? From previous experience do you stick to them?
